Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, robotics, engineering, cyber security and simulation systems development company, today announced award of US Patent  8,983,561 that discloses driverless vehicle technology and supporting infrastructure to support fully or partially automated warehouse operations, including automated guidance and safety, pallet finding, acquisition, and placement, and overall warehouse system control.  Supported by numerous other Computer Vision-based localization and guidance patents, this new capability developed jointly with the US Army, Hyster, and Kalmar provides the means for fully automated and manual assisting controlled operation of forklifts and container handlers in warehouse, forward base, and container yard operations.  It covers warehouse operations command and control, safe manned and unmanned logistical vehicle navigation to and from load points, and Pallet engagement, disengagement, and use of visual and range data sets in an engagement task specific manner. Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, robotics, engineering, cyber security and simulation systems development company, today announced award of an IDIQ with the US Army for Automated Tactical Ammunition Classification Systems (ATACS) and Small Brass Sorters (SBS) that includes task order for eight new machines, upgrades for fielded machines, and systems support.  ATACS machines inspect turn-in small caliber rounds from 50 cal down to 4.6mm for as-manufactured quality, corrosion, and round lot/size/type.  Reclaimed turn-in rounds are re-lotted for use in training saving millions of dollars per month for the Army bases employing the technology.  SBS machines perform Army mandated visual inspection of spend cartridges and cases so that they can be resold or reused.  The case is the single most expensive part of small caliber munitions so this inspection supports the dual goals of allowing the Army to safely resell spent cartridges to defray other expenses and assures that cases to be sold a fully spent and safe for reuse.

Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, robotics, engineering, cybersecurity and simulation systems development company, today announced award of an Interactive Instructor for Shipboard Technicians development contract from the US Navy, Naval Sea Systems Command.  The goal of this project is the creation of an Interactive Instructor that provides an interface for interactive instruction. The Interactive Instructor system takes as its input the expert ship maintenance knowledge in the form that it resides, including and especially natural language. We then will enhance freely available Turing test and utterance technology to generate dynamic, contemporaneous dialogues that allow the technician to present information and ask questions in a manner they would normally present to human shore-based experts, and receive interactive responses that provide the technician resolution of problems based on learned  expert solutions.

Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, robotics, engineering, cybersecurity and simulation systems development company, today announced award of Just-In-Time-Aircraft Maintenance System development contract from the US Air Force at Robbins Air Force Base.  The goal of this development project is to create a just-in-time aircraft maintenance system to provide actionable analysis of systems behavior prior to aircraft-to-be-maintained arrival. The system increases the predictability of actual maintenance by executing root-cause analysis and by generating risk-based assessments of repair options. During this effort, we will refine and build upon Cybernet’s core analysis algorithms designed in the previous contract, apply our core algorithms to aircraft log data, further optimize our algorithms for speed and quality, develop extensions and analysis modules to support High Velocity Maintenance (HVM), and complete the prototype system as the next step towards integration into maintenance operations at Robins AFB.

Ann Arbor, Michigan - Cybernet Systems Corporation, a leading defense, robotics, engineering, cyber security and simulation systems development company, is pleased to be selected by the US Army to test and demonstrate its assistive and robotic driving capabilities and products at the US Army Limited Objective Experiment (LOE) at Ft. Eustis from June 9-13, 2014.  The experiment and lead-up training activities occurring in late May and early June support the Army’s goal of increasing the productivity of logistical material handling support activities.

 

Army personnel have been training with and providing evaluation information on advanced driver assistance systems developed by Cybernet and the US Army ARDEC (for CASCOM). These systems are built as appliqué kits to the Rough Terrain Container Handler (RTCH) and the 5K Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklift (LCRTF).  These systems and the Automated Material Handling Technology (AMHT) fully automated forklift for safe ammunition material handling are being demonstrated as part of LOE activities to key Army decision makers.

 

The AMHT is based on a standard Hyster forklift fitted with Superior Engineering Turret Master rotate fork assembly and Cybernet’s AMHT autonomous robotic control kit (also used for driver assisting systems and other driverless robotic vehicles).  The AHMT technology based driver assistance kit applied to the RTCH and the LCRTF provides the operator with full 360 degree visibility with automated obstacle detection and cueing and assistive guidance to substantially improve operator productivity acquiring pallets and containers and moving them safely from place to place.

Due to development schedules, system level vehicle testing occurred in the snow and cold season and initially did not operate like it would have in good weather (or in the South or West coasts). New signal processing technology was developed for the driverless vehicle sensors that enabled successful operation in active snow and through deformable terrain.
