Cybernet designed and prototyped a virtual reality environment for use in testing real and virtual equipment, components, and systems. System fidelity, or the high correspondence between real and virtual details, was a high priority in the development of the testbed application – a handgun shooting range. The resulting system includes a complete virtual environment for the shooting range, including moving targets, handgun model, 3-dimensional aiming/firing capabilities, obstacles, texture maps, audio/visual feedback, and haptic feedback. Interface devices include the CyberImpact 6-degree-of-freedom force reflective handcontroller and the Kaiser head mounted audio/visual display device. Cybernet’s Integrated Distributed Data and Test Architecture is used to facilitate collection and analysis of performance test data.
