Cybernet performed a series of experiments aimed at furthering an operator’s ability to navigate a teleoperated vehicle successfully. The experiments were designed to use eye-tracking data to determine what factors influence successful driving. By collecting temporally synchronized data during both UGV and onboard driving experiments, Cybernet was able to establish that the narrower field-of-view available to the UGV driver restricted ability to develop a global visual model, thus forcing a more reactive driving style. Cybernet also researched issues associated with video compression and developed a conceptual approach to a compression method that would allow faster extraction of important target-tracking data.
