The main goal of this effort is create a partially automated process to dismantle cluster bombs at a cost per short ton that is cheaper than current manual processes. This includes removing the fuze, booster, linear shaped charge and bomblets from the main Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU). Along with the removal and bundling of the individual parts is the removal of the bomblet fins to allow for easier cryo/kiln processing. The system picks-up the rounds from a loading area, brings them into the disassembly area, and the various components removed are placed on the transport conveyors for removal and disposal, storage, or other demilitarization.
