Cybernet is proud to announce that Kevin Tang, research engineer, represented the company at the Association for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) 2024 annual conference, held in Las Vegas, NV, on October 21-24. Tang’s team won the Cool New Ideas session among a group of five other firms at ASNT.
Tang co-invented the mobile NDT (Nondestructive Testing) Tracker with Tinker Air Force Base (AFB) to accelerate grid inspections with a team from Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, OK, and Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA. The Tracker reduces inspection labor by 2 to 1 by displaying scan coverage in real time and generating C-Scan deliverable reports. A “C-scan” (the “C” meaning “composition”) is an in-depth material mapping visualization that greatly enhances the speed and accuracy of NDT . The Tracker eliminates the need to manually draw ultrasonic (UT) grids. UT grid inspections are required by airlines and maintenance, repair and overhaul stations (MROs) to map corrosion and verify remaining thickness of blended areas.
Tang said, “As first-time exhibitors at ASNT we jumped at the chance to pitch the Tracker at their ‘Cool New Ideas’ competition. We stepped in at the last minute to fill a cancellation so we weren’t even listed on the online ballots, but so many people wrote in ‘Cybernet’ on their phones that we won. We loved their enthusiasm for our ‘Cool New Idea’ and how well the Tracker sold itself.”
The Cool New Ideas session featured five-minute presentations from attendees that took place at the Engage Stage in the exhibit hall. Those who attended the session were then invited to vote on their favorite presentation.
