This project developed a Portable Virtual Collaborative Maintenance System (PVCMS) that provides audio and video communications to Air Force maintenance personnel in austere locations. The PVCMS is a handheld communicator that connects technicians via wireless networking. Collaboration on a common problem takes place by sharing audio (chat), video (streaming and stills), technical documents, and interactive white boarding. Diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes and barcode readers are integrated into the portable PVCMS package. This system assists novice technicians by linking them to other maintainers that have more experience with a given problem, regardless of physical location to reduce manning requirements.
