In this project Cybernet conducted vehicle design studies to aid the US Army in choosing the correct architecture for modular military vehicles for the Army After Next (AAN — circa 2028). The approach taken was to begin with five vehicle designs currently in the inventory in the 50, 15, 8, and 2 ton class and add to these vehicles advanced modifications including adaptive suspension, electric drive, superior terrain knowledge (through better sensor suites and digital maps), robotics, and all wheel braking and suspension. Then the vehicles were augmented with flexible active couplings that allow ganging two or three vehicle modules together for superior terrain and obstacle crossing characteristics.
