Cybernet developed a navigational system to perform real-time vehicle position updates based on machine vision target triangulation. The sensor head includes 3 cameras, 3 accelerometers positioned to provide 3 axes of freedom, a digital compass, and an inclinometer. Position data is fed to the processing chassis that collects the video and auxiliary position data and outputs a stream of real-time position updates. The testbed sensor achieved accuracies on the order of 2 feet and overall system update rates of 4-8 Hz (15 Hz on a Pentium).
