Cybernet performed a study to compare and contrast the costs of replacing the Grope III haptic feedback technology in Prophet II SBIR molecular modeling systems with the CyberImpact 6 degree-of-freedom tabletop handcontroller. Cybernet showed the potential for implementing the lower-cost CyberImpact technology by accessing and modifying the Prophet II SBIR software to take full advantage of the force feedback technology. Further, by creating linkages from the selected application to the graphics subsystem and the handcontroller, Cybernet showed how force feedback results could be achieved in a wider variety of applications using the same basic modeling system.
